In The Community

One of our main priorities is helping out in the community. We accomplish this by participating in several Community Service projects throughout the year. Team members feel a sense of accomplishment when they realize they take part in making a difference. Helping the community also gives an opportunity to show everyone what Team KAOS is really about. We continue outreach efforts by maintaining strong communication with the community and the media. Summer Robotics Camp

Team KAOS is proud to announce its biggest achievement to date. During this past summer, we held two one-week robotics summer camps available to elementary and middle school students. By focusing on younger children, we believe that we are impacting students in an age group who still have the ability to shape their future into the fields of math, science, and engineering. As a team, we created activities that would subliminally develop the students’ ability to build robots. Students were allowed to form groups in which they were given a task to complete. They used legos to build their robots and perform in a competition created by the team. In addition, we showcased what we have accomplished as a group, and inspired them by introducing them to FIRST. The students even had the opportunity to drive our robots and see all the components required to make them perform. GE volunteers gave speeches to the children, in which they shared experiences and motivated them to always do their best. In total, we had 45 children attend. For our first ever wide spread camp, we believe we exceeded our own wildest expectations.

Food Bank

Once again, our team kickstarted another tradition. Every two weeks, we head to the local Houston Food Bank to donate, organize, and package food for less fortunate families. By teaming up with our GE volunteers, we help the community while simultaneously strengthening our bond. In addition to the robotics members, GE inspired their employees to volunteer as well. At our first GE and KAOS volunteering event at the Food Bank we had approximately 100 people contribute their help.

Homecoming Parade

Team KAOS continued the tradition of participating in the annual Galena Park High School Homecoming Parade. We decorated the school hallways and decorated a mobile float. We distributed candy to the community in the parade and demonstrated our high spirits to Galena Park. Once again, Team KAOS’ float triumphantly won first place.

Santa’s Workshop

This year, Team KAOS continued the long tradition of “adopting” a family for Christmas. Adopting a family allows us to provide households that reside within the district with a Christmas that they would have not otherwise had. With the help of the Galena Park Precinct 2, we were able to gather enough food and collect sufficient money to provide children with clothes, gifts, a dinner, games, and a party. We surpassed our record this year, by adopting a total of ten families.
