In the Community: 2008-2009

One of our main priorities is helping out in the community. We accomplish this by participating in several Community Service projects throughout the year. Team members feel a sense of accomplishment when they realize they take part in making a difference. Helping the community also gives an opportunity to show everyone what Team KAOS is really about. We continue outreach efforts by maintaining strong communication with the community and the media. Please select a year below to find out more over events held that year:

Adopt-A-Floor

Team KAOS, along with our sponsor GE Volunteers, participated in the most contemplative event we have ever undertaken: The Adopt-A-Floor program at Texas Children’s Hospital. The kidney dialysis patient’s floor was chosen and the children were introduced to LEGO robots by the team. Approximately 150 patients were involved and the team mentored the patients while they are on the dialysis machines. To end the event, the children and staff were given a Christmas party and dinner.

Santa’s Workshop

Team KAOS began the, now, long tradition of “adopting” a family for Christmas. Adopting a family allows us to provide households that reside within the district with a Christmas that they would have not otherwise had. With the help of the Galena Park Precinct 2, we were able to gather enough food and collect sufficient money to provide children with clothes, gifts, a dinner, games, and a party.

Elves & More

Team KAOS volunteered in the Elves & More bicycle sorting event. By partnering with school and community leaders, Elves & More is changing lives – one bike at a time. Providing bicycles to under privileged children allows them to get to after school events, tutors, mentors, and jobs.

GPHS Homecoming Parade

Team KAOS participated in the annual Galena Park High School Homecoming Parade. We decorated the school hallways and decorated a mobile float. We distributed candy to the community in the parade and demonstrated our high spirits to Galena Park. For the first time, Team KAOS’ float triumphantly won first place.
